There's Somthing about Camo

There's something about camo and this time of year that just go hand in hand. Cooler, fall temperatures, spending more time outdoors, folks in camo, getting ready to go to deer camp, squirrel camp, you name it.

Camo weddings are becoming popular too, so I created this

 Limited Edition Camo Burlap and Lace Bridal Bouquet.

 I will confess, its been years since I've been hunting, but I can shoot a gun. Oh, how good some deer jerky would be this fall! I'll have to wait patiently on a friend to share some deer meat with us.

I've been seeing the camo show up in stores as a fall trend and I did recently buy a camo tank top. Its fun and one of my favorite shirts in my closet right now.

Speaking of trends, I'm usually not into that kind of thing, but are y'all noticing more bronze and gold accents in clothing and jewelry? It seems as of I'm

noticing more of these colors showing up in the buttons on new clothes and such. 

 

For this bridal bouquet, I mixed camo, orange, tan, and chocolate brown burlap roses and ivory lace.

Put a Shade On It!

Earlier in the fall, I was dividing plants and moved this Lamb's Ear to a new flower pot. It was droopy and needed some support.

Well I had this rusty ol' lamp shade that just wondered around the yard, with no real purpose. So these two got together and have made a great pair!

The lamp shade started as a temporary fix, but I think I like the combination and will leave the shade on the Lamb's Ear. What do you think?

 

A Rusty Bucket of Kale

Someone was describing their son to me today and said "he was a winter time person..."

 

These words will NEVER describe me. I, for one do not like cold weather or the dreary days of winter and forget about snow. So this week I am happy. Our air conditioners are running in East Texas and its mid 70's. Most are complaining that it "doesn't feel like December", while I'm happy it feels like spring.

 

Over the weekend, I got to work in the yard for a while and I planted some kale in the rusty, bottomless bucket.

 Now you may be thinking I said the pansies and dusty miller would make it till spring, but I left out a small little detail. You MUST remember to water the flowers for them to survive! Life got crazy for a few weeks and since time changed (have I mentioned I hate DST), I get home after dark and didn't water. Oooops!

 Some of you might remember the original planting in the bottomless bucket last spring.

 I had been wanting to plant some kale for a while, but hadn't seen any in the garden center. Well last week that changed, so I grabbed three of the ornamental cabbages and decided they would be great for the bucket and should survive the winter with a little water along the way.

 I brought most of my plants out of the greenhouse to enjoy the mild week, but it sounds like the cold weather will return by next week. :( I've heard rumors of the twenties in the forecast.

 

 Now what was I suppose to do? Oh yeah, go water the plants!

 

 

A Fall Rusty Junk Bucket Makeover

A few weeks ago I gave a few of my rusty containers a makeover. Hello Pansies and Mums!

Remember this bottomless rusty bucket from the spring? Well the marigolds are gone, but the dusty miller, petunias, and creeping jenny are still with us.

 A few purple and yellow pansies from the local produce stand filled in the holes and will last all winter.

I added a yellow mum to the basket on the bicycle and the fountain grass is blooming in my wash tub along with marigolds and springeri fern.

 I know when we get a frost, the petunias will say good bye, although I'm hoping the pansies will have filled in  more by then. The dusty miller will last another year, so next spring it will get transplanted to a larger container.

Burlap, Lace, and Feather Bridal Bouquets

 I finally got to photograph the new burlap and lace bridal bouquets that I made last weekend. Since I'm not home during the daylight hours to take pictures, I took the bouquets with me to the farm and photographed them in front of bales of hay.

 I decided it would be pretty to create an all white / cream burlap and lace bouquet. I added lots of wispy white feathers to the bouquet and pearls in the center of the fabric roses. This afternoon the bouquet will get its wings and is headed to Alaska! After travelling "north to Alaska", the wedding will actually be a barn / outdoor wedding in Arkansas.

I will definitely be making more bouquets like this to add to my etsy store soon!

 

 

I also photographed this burlap and lace bouquet at the hay field and it is still for sale. Chocolate, natural, and cream burlap, with off white lace compose this rustic, shabby chic bouquet.
