A Texas Longhorn Sunset

I was driving home last night, deep in thought, pondering an article I had read in MaryJanesFarm Magazine over the weekend when I happened upon this sunset. I was thinking about the article that discussed how women digging in the dirt and working on the farm seem to be healthier and have less stress. I must say, I don't mind getting dirt under my finger nails and its been over ten years since I've been to a doctor.

 I was on my way home from the farm, country music blasting on the radio, cruising the back roads as sunset approach. It had rained most of the weekend (for which I'm very thankful) and the clouds made way for the sun to light up the sky.

 I rounded one corner on the black top road and immediately had to put on the breaks and grab my camera out of my purse. I jumped out of the truck, climbed the ditch and snapped several pictures of Texas Longhorns against the sunset.

 

The scene brought me full circle back to the article and I thought about how much I love living in the country. You don't get to see scenes like this in the city and you sure can't stop in the middle of the road, leave your truck door open while listening to the radio, taking pictures of cows in the sunset. Yes, I'm a genuine country, farm girl and I wouldn't have it any other way!

 

Checkin' Out the Chair

I snuck away from work yesterday, just long enough to run up the street to a garage sale. The folks have an occasional sale and its where I found my little chippy chair earlier in the year. Well this time they had this awesome vintage yellow chair. I made an offer and then I loaded it in my truck with all my feed sacks, tools, and ropes.

 After work I headed to the farm to check on my cows. All the cows were grazing or resting under the shade tree, so I decided to get my chair out of the truck and stage it in the pasture. I could vision the cows in the background... Well as soon as I opened the tail gate, the cows rushed to see if it was feed day.

 "Pretty Horns" checked it all out and gave her nod of approval!

Several of the cows had to investigate the chair before they figured out it wasn't edible!

 The cows made the photoshoot fun and then just a chair sitting in the open field wasn't near as interesting. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with the chair. Right now its sitting in the middle of my little living room, blocking my view of the tv. Hopefully sometime this weekend I can move furniture around and find a place for it. It was just one of those things I couldn't pass up when I saw it. My husband said I was crazy and then said he tried to get me to have have furniture like that when we first got married. But vintage wasn't cool then... and the furniture he was wanting to get, wasn't pretty like this!

I'm in FOLK Magazine!

So I've been keeping this little secret since February and its been killing me...I submitted a story to Folk Magazine during the winter and found out my pictures from the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails would be included in Issue V of FOLK Magazine!

I didn't want to tell anybody in case something happened and my submission failed to make the final cut. Today, I went to the mail box and there was two copies of FOLK with MY pictures and editorial piece in it! I got two whole pages with seven pictures! Our dog Trixie even made it into the Southern issue.

Somebody please pinch me!

It was a dream to get to see the Texas Bluebonnets in person and a dream to one day have my work published in a magazine. I get to scratch two things off the bucket list now!



This is a picture from the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails this year.

We enjoy driving the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails and getting to see all the beautiful wildflowers in bloom during the spring. We returned this spring and took even more pictures. To me nothing says Texas like Bluebonnets and Longhorn Cattle.
