Sophisticated Swamp Bayou

"Sophisticated Swamp Bayou"

That was the theme for an event I designed fresh flowers for this weekend! It was a new theme for me and I loved all the textures, flowers and foliage that was used to create these arrangements.
My customer was taking them out of town, so I haven't seen them all displayed on the tables at the historic plantation setting.
When a friend heard the theme, she said "I didn't know the swamp could be sophisticated."  When I sent her one of the pictures of the completed arrangements, she replied "Yessss! You really can be SSB!"
Bells of Ireland, green hydrangeas, trick, fujis, trachelium, silver dollar eucalyptus, amaranthus, alium, explosion grass, curly willow, pussy willow branches, lotus pods, and Spanish mosh created the swampy bayou look.

These where fun to make and I heard everyone liked them at the event! Makes me want to have a swamp party- how about you?!?

A Girl and her Brother

There's a relationship that forms between a girl and her Brother.

It takes work and patient. Sometimes he's sweet, nice, cooperates with me and does everything I want him to do. You learn what buttons to push and which ones not to.

There's other times were he's just plain stubborn, doesn't do anything right, gets in a tangled mess, and you want to throw him out in the yard or take a hammer to him. It's not too often he flares up and causes this anxiety and frustration, but ya never know when the needles going to break. Then we fight and I say ugly things.

When he's good, it's great. When he's bad, I'm not a happy camper.

He hums away as he works and this week he's been extra busy, cooperating with me and been productive.

Now if you thought I was talking about my real life brother, you were wrong! I'm talking about my Brother sewing machine! I'm in the middle of a big pillow cover order and (knocking on wood) my Brother has been good this week!

Oh and my real life brother, we fought like cats and dogs when we were growing up. His teachers called him an "Angel" at school, but as soon as his foot hit the ground, as he stepped off the school bus, he was a holy terror! Now, he's a pretty good guy!

Cady and Cody's Wedding

Last month, I had the pleasure of designing Cady's burlap and lace bridal bouquet. Her grandmother was going to make it, but contacted me instead and I was able to fulfill her rush order! Ms. Sandy is apparently very crazy about this special girl and shared some pictures with me and give me permission to feature her wedding here!

Of course, when I saw Farmall tractors, I knew this was a good wedding! 😉 We have several Farmalls,  just not restored like this one.

.
I'll also admit to driving a John Deere tractor, but my first job was driving a Farmall, raking hay.
It looks like they had a beautiful and fun country wedding and I'm so glad I could have a small part of it.

How sweet is this precious little girl?!?

Congratulations to Cady and Cody and many best wishes for a happy married life together!

*All pictures in this post were taken by April Powell Photography, and shared with permission from Sandy, the bride's grandmother.

Big Trucks and Flowers!

I had the privilege of designing flowers for a recent Trucking Technology Program at the civic center.

Yes, that is a big Peterbilt truck inside the building! The arrangements had red roses, gladiolus, ginger, white hydrangeas, larkspur, and snapdragons and assorted greenery.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special event!
